Obiekt ten wybudowano jako skład amunicji miejskiej. Niegdyś leżał na linii murów miejskich. Bogato zdobiona fasada jest dziełem Abraham van den Block, który upiększył niejedno dzieło sztuki w Gdańsku. Patrząc na budowlę, z łatwością zauważamy jej niegdyś militarne przeznaczenie. Widać tu posąg Minerwy oraz kilka posągów wojowników. W studzience umieszczonej od ulicy Piwnej nigdy nie było wody, za to służyła do wyciągania kul armatnich z podziemi.
