Bram wodnych w Gdańsku jest wiele, jednak to ta brama „zamyka” Długi Targ i to właśnie ją widać na wielu zdjęciach z Gdańska. Wybudowana w XVI wieku, zastąpiła swą poprzedniczkę Bramę Kogi. Wzniesiono ją dla polskich królów, lecz żaden z nich nigdy tu nie mieszkał. Jedynie Maria Ludwika Gonzaga w drodze na ślub z Władysławem IV spędziła tu kilka nocy.
Brama Zielona zachwyca swym manierystycznym charakterem. Niegdyś przed nią stała waga miejska, tak potrzebna w średniowiecznym portowym mieście. Obecnie w bramie mieści się jeden z oddziałów Muzeum Narodowego w Gdańsku. Wcześniej mieściło się tu biuro Lecha Wałęsy – Laureata Pokojowej Nagrody Nobla z roku 1983.
